Mt. Daisen is a mountain that would be a waste to simply admire from afar. The history of faith, the sweeping highland views, milk from the grazing pastures, craft beer. Just by circling its foothills, you can fit experiences with completely different characters into a single day. This is a classic full-day model course that loops around the western side of Mt. Daisen, designed with a drive in mind.
The Overall Route (with map)
- Morning — Visit Daisen-ji Temple & Ōgamiyama Shrine Okumiya
- Lunch — A meal at Gambarius or Milk no Sato
- Afternoon — The views from Masumizu Highland & Tenkū Lift, then the Shōji Ueda Museum of Photography
- Evening — Souvenirs & a toast

Morning — Daisen-ji & Ōgamiyama Shrine
First, head to the heart of Daisen mountain faith, Daisen-ji Temple & Ōgamiyama Shrine Okumiya. At the end of a long approach paved with natural stone, the Okumiya stands cradled by the mountain. Lunch — Gambarius or Milk no Sato
If you want a hearty meal, enjoy Daisen’s local beer and food at Beer Hof Gambarius (please refrain from drinking if you’re driving). For something lighter and more relaxed, have a soft-serve ice cream at Daisen Makiba Milk no Sato while watching the cattle out in the grazing fields.
Afternoon — Masumizu Highland & Shōji Ueda Museum of Photography
Masumizu Highland & Tenkū Lift offers a panorama where, beyond the lift, you can even see the Sea of Japan. Next, head to the Shōji Ueda Museum of Photography, where the building itself is a work of art. Its windows frame Mt. Daisen like a picture frame — a place that photography lovers simply can’t resist.

Variations
- Autumn foliage season (October–November) — The area around Daisen-ji boasts some of the finest autumn colors in western Japan. Weight your morning more heavily.
- Kid-focused — Shift toward Milk no Sato plus Morino Kuni for a full day of play.
- History-focused — Take your time at the Okumiya and read up on the history stories beforehand.
