Yumigahama Beach

Selected as one of Japan's Top 100 White Sand and Pine Beaches, this gently curving shoreline offers scenic drives, stunning sunsets, and summer swimming with Mt. Daisen as a backdrop.

About this place

Yumigahama Beach is a sandy shoreline stretching approximately 20 kilometers in a graceful arc from Yonago City to Sakaiminato City in Tottori Prefecture. The gently bowed coastline, shaped like a drawn bow, has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 White Sand and Pine Beaches, and is celebrated for its beautiful scenery of white sand and a long row of pine trees.

From around the northern tip of the beach, visitors are treated to a frontal view of Mt. Daisen, the highest peak in the Chugoku region, where the majestic mountain silhouette and the Sea of Japan create a scene of exceptional beauty. The sunset over the Sea of Japan is one of Tottori Prefecture's most iconic evening vistas, and the orange sky and sea at the horizon captivates all who see it. In summer, the beach comes alive as a swimming destination, and in 2020 a cycling path along the coast was also completed.

Just a few minutes by car from central Yonago or Kaike Onsen, the beach is easy to drop into during a drive. Strolling, cycling, and sunset-watching are all on offer, with different pleasures available depending on the season and time of day.
