The main shrine at the foot of Mt. Daisen, serving as the sato-miya (lowland counterpart) to the mountaintop inner shrine — the spiritual gateway to Daisen worship on the Yonago side.
Ogamiyama Jinja Honsha is a Shinto shrine enshrined in Odaka, Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, serving as the sato-miya (main shrine at the foot of the mountain) in relation to the oku-miya (inner shrine) located on the slopes of Mt. Daisen. The principal deity is Okuninushi no Mikoto (another name for Okuninushi). It is said that the main shrine was established at the foot of the mountain so that worshippers could pay their respects even in winter, when the mountain sanctuary of Shugendo ascetic practice was inaccessible.
Mt. Daisen has been revered since ancient times as a sacred mountain, known also as "Okamitake (divine peak)," and its name is recorded in the Izumo no Kuni Fudoki (a regional gazetteer) compiled in the Nara period. At the time of the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji era, the lowland "winter shrine" became independent as the main shrine and took the form it holds today. The verdant precinct, overlooking Mt. Daisen, is described as a "sacred forest adorned with water and flowers" and is a cherished gathering place for local residents.
Located close to JR Yonago Station and Hoki-Daisen Station, it is a convenient stop before or after visiting the inner shrine. Worshippers are encouraged to visit both the main shrine and the inner shrine, offering an introduction to the world of Daisen mountain faith.
