Fukuoka Pond — Reflected Mt. Daisen

A photography spot where Mt. Daisen reflects perfectly on the still water — best seen on a calm, windless morning.

About this place

Fukuoka Pond is an agricultural reservoir located behind the Shōji Ueda Museum of Photography. On windless mornings, the sacred Mt. Daisen mirrors perfectly in its tranquil surface, creating the breathtaking 'Sakasa Daisen' (Reflected Daisen) — a view that has made it one of Hōki-chō's most celebrated photography spots.

World-renowned photographer Shōji Ueda and many local artists have stood at the water's edge, capturing the graceful form of Mt. Daisen in oil paintings and photographs. Early morning, when the water is completely still and mirror-like with no wind, is considered the ideal time to visit.

Pairing a visit here with the Shōji Ueda Museum of Photography allows you to experience the beauty of Mt. Daisen both through photographs and in the actual landscape. The pond is easily accessible from the museum's parking lot.
